Global retail giants Next plc, who are traditionally renowned for their range of fashion and home furnishings recently announced that they would be taking over a number of ex Debenhams stores to open up their own beauty halls on the high street.

Based on our previous experience of working for Next and our understanding of the brand image they prefer within their retail property portfolio, Essential Projects was appointed to complete the fit out of lighting gantry steelwork frames to three new ‘Next Beauty’ stores located in Milton Keynes, Watford and Gateshead.

In order to convert the ex Debenhams stores into Next Beauty outlets, Essential Projects was contracted to manufacture, supply and install a number of bespoke architectural steelwork items as specified in the architectural drawings. Essential Projects also carried out onsite installation of lighting gantry steelwork frames to support lighting rafts.

Also, as part of the development work in Milton Keynes and to help comply with DDA building regulations, Essential Projects manufactured and installed a 17.5m steel ramp with monolithic steel wall posts to support a new balustrade wall. This also incorporated a new stainless steel handrail system.

Commenting on behalf of Essential Projects, Managing Director, said, “It is part of Next’s policy to provide a light, airy feel and “see through” experience for their customers when in their stores, so it was essential that the steelwork we provided was of the highest quality and manufactured to the correct specifications to support the lighting.”

The Next Beauty offering will now sell over 200 brands, including premium names such as Estee Lauder, Clinique and Burberry, as well as The Ordinary, Aveda and Rituals.  Further new Next Beauty stores are also planned within the Bullring & Grand Central in Birmingham, The Oracle in Reading, Highcross in Leicester, Silverburn in Glasgow and Centrale in Croydon.
