Global supermarket chain Morrisons recently opened up a brand-new store in Dalton Park, County Durham, in which Essential Projects installed bespoke stainless steel cladding.
Morrisons new site was built as part of a multi-million pound expansion of Dalton Park. This area has sat vacant since 2016, and also includes a new cinema and restaurant.
As well as the in-house bakers, butchers and fishmongers that shoppers can usually expect from a Morrisons store, additional facilities will include:
- Take-away pizza
- Nutmeg clothing range, including baby, children, womenswear and menswear lines
- Cookware and soft furnishings
- ‘Free From’ products
- A florist offering bouquets, single stem flowers and other floral arrangements
- A barista bar
About 300 jobs are believed to have been created by opening the new store.
Bespoke Stainless Steel Cladding
As part of the new store development, Essential Projects was contracted by RG Group to manufacture and install bespoke stainless steel cladding within areas of the bakery.
After an initial site survey and our expert understanding of the need to meet very high food hygiene standards, we recommended using stainless steel as the best material from which to fabricate the cladding due to its anti-corrosive properties and its ability to be easily cleaned and sterilised.
Once appointed, Essential Projects manufactured and installed 1.0mm thick satin polished stainless steel cladding to two of the walls within the bakery.
Essential Projects were also required to install 2.0mm thick stainless steel channel sections to doorways, window openings and low height walls. We also supplied a satin polished stainless steel sheet to replace an existing hygiene board.
On behalf of RG Group, Associate – Head of Retail, Matt Sidwell said “We have very a good relationship with Essential Projects having worked together on other projects that required bespoke architectural metalwork. They always provide a great service and help to ensure the materials used in store fit-outs meet strict health and safety and food hygiene standards.”
