Located at the Bluewater Shopping Centre in Dartmouth, the 240-acre site is the fourth biggest shopping centre in the UK. The Whitewall Gallery store is one of 300 shops within the complex, which is also home to over 50 bars, restaurants and cafes. The shopping centre also has 13,000 free car parking spaces and attracts millions of visitors per year.
Founded in 2006, Whitewall aims to make the world of contemporary art accessible to all. Each gallery is an architect designed display space, beautifully proportioned with exquisitely lit rooms which create a uniquely flexible environment within which the artwork can come to life.
As part of the development, Essential Projects was appointed by the main contractor, Paramount Projects to design and manufacture a new mezzanine floor for the leading art retailer.
The sizable project ran for six weeks and involved making structural alterations within the store to allow for the installation of a new mezzanine floor. The design solution for the mezzanine floor had to be in keeping with other bespoke furniture used within the store made from materials such as veneered oak, granite and stainless steel.
Commenting on behalf of Paramount Projects, Greg Elkin said “Essential Projects have a fantastic reputation for installing high quality design solutions. Having looked at some of their past work on behalf of other high profile clients, we knew they wouldn’t let us down on the Whitewall Project.”
Eliot Saxton, Managing Director at Essential Projects said “I am very pleased with the mezzanine floor we have installed to this Whitewall store. This job demonstrated our ability to work with existing contractors on site as well as our design and manufacturing expertise.”
