May 2021Project Brief
Fashion giants Next plc have recently opened a new store in Bedford which features architectural metalwork supplied by Essential Projects.
Located at the Interchange Retail Park, the new 38,000 sqft store will be Next’s flagship store within Bedford.
Formerly a Toys R Us store, the unit has sat vacant since 2018. Next took the decision to close its store within Bedford Town Centre and relocate to Interchange Retail Park in order to increase the floorspace available and create a more inviting shopping experience.
As well as womenswear, menswear, kidswear and a home department, the new store will include Mamas & Papas and Ground Coffee concessions.
The essential solution
As part of the newly developed retail store, Essential Projects was contracted by Central Shopfitters to install bespoke feature glass staircases.
To provide safe access from the ground floor to the 1st floor shopping area, Essential Projects manufactured, supplied and installed two bespoke feature glass staircases.
Both bespoke staircases were supplied with glass balustrade, steel handrails and tiled treads in keeping with the brand design of other Next retail store staircases installed around the UK.
The new Bedford store is one of six new Next stores being opened across the UK in April 2021. Other locations include Fosse Park, Worcester, Liverpool, Truro and Redditch.
