Located at Junction 6 off the M61 motorway, adjacent to the Macron Stadium, home of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, Next Plc has built a new £12m flagship store, purposely designed to incorporate clothing, garden and home shopping in one indoor and outdoor complex.
The new three-storey 2,731 sqm Next flagship store replaced the original 3 units Next operated from within the Middlebrook Retail & Leisure Park.
Essential Projects was appointed by Simpsons of York, on the back of work completed at a Next store in Oxford, to manufacture and install three glass stainless steel staircases.
The essential solution
Essential Projects manufactured and installed three glass risers staircases. Two of the glass riser staircases were installed to run parallel with the escalator to provide safe access from the ground floor to the 1st floor shopping area for customers not wishing to use an escalator.
The third glass riser staircase was installed with a 45-degree angle at the rear of the store to provide access to the upper level atrium.
All of the glass riser staircases were supplied with glass balustrade, walnut handrails, steel cladding and tiled treads in keeping with other Next Plc retail store staircases installed around the UK.
Essential Projects was also asked to provide structural steelwork that would help to support lighting rafts and roof lights.
To ensure DDA compliant access to the first floor Costa coffee shop and prevent anyone from falling from the first floor mezzanine floor, Essential Projects added steel brackets to the glass panel perimeter and supplied walnut handrails for other contractors on site to install.
