August 2019Project Brief
Continuing our successful track record of working for subcontractors on retail fit-out projects, Essential Projects was contracted to complete the installation of a mezzanine glass balustrade system at a newly refurbished Next Plc retail store at the Kingston Retail Park in Newcastle.
The essential solution
As part of the transformation scheme, retail giant Next took the opportunity to redevelop their store in order to update the layout and design to their latest standard which was intended to provide customers with an experience that combines shopping with leisure and lifestyle enjoyment.
To fulfil these objectives, Essential Projects was contracted by Central Shopfitters to manufacture, supply and install a bespoke glass balustrade system around a newly created mezzanine flooring structure which had been installed to create additional retail display floorspace and room for a Costa Coffee franchise café.
In total, 13.5m of 1.5m high glass balustrade was installed around the perimeter of the first floor of the mezzanine platform.
The glass balustrade was installed with 48.3ø satin polished steel posts and handrails and 10mm thick heat-soaked float glass panels, all of which were spigot bolted to the mezzanine structure.
The glass balustrade installed has now enabled the Next store to be completely compliant with current health and safety legislation by providing an important safety barrier and prevent customers from falling from height.
