April 2018Project Brief
Located only 2 miles away from Peterborough town centre, Bretton Centre Retail Park underwent redevelopment after it was sold to a UK based consortium for £17.5m in 2017.
As part of a significant investment to improve the stores and facilities within the retail park, which include major UK brands such as Boots, Sports Direct, and a flagship 67,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s super store, it was decided the existing Poundland store would also undergo redevelopment work to improve the store shop front , as well as redesign the interior fit out within the store.
The essential solution
Essential Projects was appointed by Nottingham based design specialist CWP Group to manufacture, supply and install a bespoke glass staircase for the Poundland store.
The glass staircase was installed to the ground level to provide customers with safe access to the first-floor shopping area. It features 6mm thick folded interlocking treads and is held in place by structural support columns. A 7.5m wall mounted handrail finished in satin polished stainless steel was installed to the staircase. To provide a striking aesthetic look, the glass staircase was finished red oxide primed, ready to be painted on site by another contractor.
Essential Projects was also contracted to provide bespoke structural steelwork which was installed to an already existing mezzanine floor to support a new elevator opening.
Over 14m of stainless steel and glass balustrade was also fitted by Essential Projects to the void of the front atrium of the mezzanine floor.
